Spark Electric is a family-run electrical contractor founded by Mike Chen — a Red Seal electrician with 15 years on the tools. Mike started the business after years working with large contractors and decided to bring his skills directly to homeowners in North Vancouver.

Today, Mike leads two crews of fully-licensed electricians. They handle everything from panel upgrades and rewires to EV charger installations and smart home setups. Every job gets Mike's direct supervision — no "dispatchers who show up and guess what to do."

Mike got his start in Vancouver's commercial sector before going out on his own in 2012. He's a perfectionist who doesn't cut corners — every job is done to code and then some. Specializes in panel upgrades, complex rewiring, and EV charger installations. Still pulls wire and terminates panels himself on bigger jobs.

Derek has been with Spark Electric for 6 years and leads Crew A. He's the go-to for commercial tenant improvements and handles the more complex residential jobs when Mike is on site visits. Known for clean, organized work and explaining everything to homeowners.

Jason Patel

Journeyman Electrician · 4th Year

Jason leads Crew B and just got his Red Seal last year. He's fast, efficient, and great with customers. Handles most standard residential calls — outlets, lights, ceiling fans, troubleshooting. Always leaves the workspace cleaner than he found it.

Tyler Smith

Apprentice · 2nd Year

Tyler is in his second year of apprenticeship and works with both crews. He's eager, shows up early, and is learning fast. Handles prep work, rough-ins, and is being trained on troubleshooting under direct supervision.

All work is supervised by Mike or a Red Seal journeyman. Spark Electric is fully licensed (FSR-A), bonded, and carries $5M liability insurance.
